Who Am I?
Mary Hannah Schwarzen; Instructor, NAI Certified Guide
Hello! I'm so glad you're here!My name is Mary Hannah Schwarzen, and I have a passion for teaching middle and high school students, particularly from homeschool families.
My life has been a fun adventure. I have lived overseas, visited more than 30 of the 50 states, and been on two continents. I have ridden an elephant, eaten octopus, and helped sail a historic ship. I have led over 150 tours of the historic Sgt. York homesite, worked as a midwife assistant, and seen the Himalayan Mountains. In my years working, I have been a farmhand, a Classical Conversations tutor, a state park recreator, and of course, a French, history, and skills instructor. My life experiences have led me to cultivate a curious mind, and I am proud to call myself a lifelong learner. I have been teaching both online and in person for the last five years, and have been speaking French for eight years. I will graduate with Honors from Bryan College with my Bachelors in History and Education in 2022. |
Teaching is in my blood.I'm one of ten kids, and I was homeschooled kindergarten through high school.
While I might not have seen myself teaching as a career, I suppose it should have seen it coming. Both my parents are educators, and are active in homeschool co-ops, writing curriculum, and mentoring younger homeschool families. I carry on that tradition in my five years of teaching, both online and in person, with age ranges from 4-18. |
From Miss to Mrs.I'm engaged to my best friend, and we are getting married this upcoming summer! This guy makes me laugh, and keeps me sane. He's an educator as well, specializing in teaching music K-12.
We both love cultivating hobbies. I enjoy embroidery, historical interpretation with the state parks, reading every history book, and playing guitar. He loves hunting, fishing, canoeing/kayaking, and playing piano. We both love animals, and dream of owning acreage where we can raise livestock and grow our own food. Between the two of us, we'll have two dogs, a betta fish, and a cat, so we're outnumbered by the pets. While my last name will change in 2022, I still intend on continuing to offer online classes to homeschool families. I love what I do too much to not! I'm already a NAI Certified Interpretive Guide, but I'll be looking to add a few certifications under my belt within the next few years as well, such as Woodcock Johnson certification, so stay tuned for additional services! |
